We stayed if the High Coast region to try what looked like a nice trail: Skuleskogen Nationalpark (GMaps). It was gorgeous.
Basicly with children you have two options amongst the shortests trails (5-10kms). If they do not usually walk for long distances or prefer easy trails, do not go for the north trail. Some other tourists told us that the trail from north to main canyon (see page picture) is more scenic than the one from the south.
It took us the full day to do the trail from north to canyon back and forth even though it is only around 10km. You will have to walk up in equilibrium on stones. It is a really challenging trail.
We had the chance to double the challenge when the youngest was plain exhausted at the top. If you are not confident in your ability to take your child up and down on your shoulders or arms, simply do not try that trail.
Bring hiking shoes because you could easily twist ankles.
Be sure you have enough water before you start the walk because you will not find any there.
We booked a room at Scandic Örnsköldsvik (GMaps-Tripadvisor) . The city of Örnsköldsvik is 30 minutes away from the park north entrance.
The room itself was a standard room with a twin-folding bed. There was enough space, occultating curtains, decent bathroom.
The swimming pool is not warmed and is rather deep for children unable to swim. Not a deal-breaker.
We had dinner there twice. The grilled pluma apricot BBQ, spansk kycklyngsallad m chorizo are really delicious. We found it too bad that so many people ordered conventional stuff (burgers or mixed grills...). It was so good we ordered a pecan pie that was also very good even though quite filling :D Spaguetti bowl for children are a very nice deal. We ordered a few of them...PS: it does not like like they still are on the menu right now...
To lunch, we packed some food from breakfast.
Definitely an unforgettable trail!
